Topaz
specimen number:
2063384
location:
Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
description: Nestled in northern Pakistan, the high-altitude region of Gilgit-Baltistan lies within the tectonic collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian plates, famous for its extensive granitic pegmatites and alpine-type hydrothermal veins. Mining history in the area began with artisanal local prospectors traversing rugged valleys such as Shigar, Haramosh, and Dassu, which later grew into a major global supplier of gem-grade minerals. Mineral collectors and gemologists highly value the region for producing exceptionally clear, well-formed topaz crystals ranging from brilliant sherry and golden orange hues to pale blue and champagne tones, often found matrix-hosted alongside quartz and aquamarine.
An attractive glassy gem quality mostly colorless to slightly sherry colored crystal of topaz with smaller crystallized topaz and feldspar. An excellent thumbnail in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark and dates to the early 2000's.
