Dassu, located in the Braldu Valley of the Shigar District in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, sits within the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. High-grade metamorphic processes and granitic igneous intrusions formed extensive pegmatite veins filled with miarolitic cavities, providing ideal conditions for gemstone crystallization. For decades, local artisanal miners have extracted specimens from steep granite cliffs and high-altitude pegmatites, often working hazardous claims during favorable weather seasons. Dassu aquamarine is highly prized by mineral collectors worldwide for its sharp hexagonal crystal habits, high transparency, dynamic blue tones, and frequent association with lustrous black tourmaline, muscovite mica, and albite feldspar matrix.
