Topaz with Quartz
specimen number:
2063430
location:
Shengus, Roundu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
description: Located along the Indus River valley in the Roundu District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, Shengus is situated within the high-grade metamorphic terrain of the Karakoram and Himalayan collision zone. The local geology features abundant complex granitic pegmatite veins cutting through gneissic host rocks, which served as rich host environments for hydrothermal mineral crystallization. Artisanal miners and local prospectors have worked these pegmatites for decades, bringing Shengus to international prominence among mineral collectors. The locality is renowned worldwide for producing exceptionally sharp, lustrous fluorite crystals--often exhibiting vibrant pink, lilac, and green color zones--frequently associated with aquamarine, albite, and mica matrices.
Attractive combination piece with a glassy gem quality sharply formed sherry colored crystal of topaz 3.0 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm in size along the edge of a mostly complete colorless and mostly gemmy lustrous crystal of quartz. This is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark and dates to 1994.
Size: 4.5 x 4.0 x 3.5 cm (miniature)
