Beryl
specimen number:
8911051
location:
Erongo Mts., Namibia
description: The Erongo Mountains in Namibia represent a major, eroded Anorogenic Ring Complex of Cretaceous age, formed through intense igneous activity and magma intrusion into Precambrian basement rocks. As magma cooled and volatile-rich fluids filled open cavities, exceptional miarolitic cavities and pegmatitic pockets developed, creating ideal conditions for gemstone crystallization. Mining in the region has long been sustained by local small-scale miners, known as small prospectors, who work rugged granite outcrops and miarolitic pockets using manual methods to extract fine specimens. Erongo aquamarine is famous among mineral collectors for its exceptional transparency, deep blue to sea-green hues, and distinctive association with dark black schorl tourmaline and bright white microcline feldspar matrix. These sharp, lustrous hexagonal beryl crystals remain some of the most sought-after pegmatite specimens from southern Africa.
A loose lustrous blue somewhat sceptered crystal of beryl, this the variety often called aquamarine. In super condition all around with no points of attachment. This weighs 79.95 g. The specimen comes with a previous label from the Alton collection. The photo exhibits the specimen back lit.
Size: 6.0 x 3.8 x 2.8 cm (small-cabinet)
