Schorl
specimen number:
2063495
location:
Erongo Mts., Namibia
description: The Erongo Mountains in Namibia are a rugged ring complex formed by Cretaceous granitic intrusions into older Damara metamorphic rocks, featuring numerous miarolitic cavities and pegmatites. Artisanal miners and mineral collectors have targeted the region for decades, extracting world-class specimens of crystallized minerals from pocket-rich veins. Among the most iconic finds is black tourmaline known as schorl, frequently associated with smoky quartz, feldspar, and rarer gems like aquamarine. This unique geological setting creates exceptional crystal preservation and form, making Erongo schorl specimens highly sought after by museums and private collectors globally.
A loose floater grouping, this primarily to interconnected mirror bright lustrous black double terminated thick crystals of schorl, numerous smaller crystal scattered throughout. No points of attachment and in very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He acquired the piece in 2001.
Size: 6.5 x 6.0 x 5.0 cm (small-cabinet)
