Beryl
specimen number:
8911041
location:
Erongo Mts., Namibia
description: Located in the Erongo region of Namibia, the Erongo Mountains comprise a rugged, ring-shaped volcanic complex formed during the Cretaceous Period through alkaline magmatism and granite intrusion. Within the complex, miarolitic cavities and pegmatitic pockets developed as volatile-rich fluids cooled inside granitic rocks, creating ideal environments for extraordinary mineral crystallization. The mountains are world-renowned among mineral collectors for producing magnificent specimens of beryl, particularly stunning aquamarine crystals often associated with black tourmaline (schorl), smoky quartz, and feldspar. Artisanal miners and dedicated specimen collectors have worked these remote pockets for decades, carefully extracting delicate beryl crystals that feature distinct tabular or prismatic habits and vivid blue or green coloration, making Erongo one of the premier mineral localities in Africa.
A loose grouping of attractive lustrous pale blue prismatic beryl crystals, this the variety often called aquamarine. No points of attachment and crystallized all around, this is in good condition.
