Beryl
specimen number:
2062908
location:
Mica Lode Quarry, Royal Gorge, Fremont Co., Colorado, USA
description: The Mica Lode Quarry, situated in the Eight Mile Park pegmatite district north of the Royal Gorge in Fremont County, Colorado, is hosted within Precambrian metamorphic rocks like schist and features complex granitic pegmatite bodies. Discovered in the early 20th century, the site became a major surface-mining producer of industrial minerals, particularly soaring to prominence as Colorado's largest pegmatite feldspar producer by mid-century, alongside significant historical yields of commercial mica and accessory specimens. Today, mineral collectors and researchers value the locality for its rich assemblage of zoned pegmatite minerals, including notable phosphate species and gem-quality beryl crystals.
Neat locality example, this an elongated prismatic pale greenish blue to mostly colorless opaque and non-lustrous crystal of beryl with minor attached quartz and muscovite. In good condition all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from Ray DeMark. This label notes that the specimen was collected in August, 1957.
