Beryl
specimen number:
2354279
location:
Dara-I-Pech, Kunar, Afghanistan
description: The Dara-i-Pech pegmatite field, located in the Kunar Province of eastern Afghanistan, is part of the Hindu Kush geological complex formed by intense tectonic collision and igneous activity during the Alpine-Himalayan orogeny. Lithium-rich granitic pegmatites intruded ancient metamorphic host rocks here, creating extensive pocket systems filled with rare-element minerals. Indigenous miners and local artizans have hand-extracted gemstones from these steep mountain slopes for decades, enduring difficult terrain and regional turmoil to supply global mineral markets. Dara-i-Pech morganite is widely celebrated by collectors for its brilliant transparency, sharp hexagonal prismatic crystal forms, and soft pink to peach coloration, often perched dramatically on snow-white albite matrix or alongside gem-quality tourmaline and spodumene.
A loose pink well-formed gem crystal of beryl, this the variety often called morganite. Very slight damage on the backside, this still in good condition. The crystal weighs 38.64 g.
