Beryl
specimen number:
2063470
location:
California Mine, Mt. White, Chaffee Co., Colorado, USA
description: The California Mine is situated at high altitude in the Sawatch Range near Mount White and Mount Antero in Chaffee County, Colorado. Its geology consists of Tertiary-age granitic stocks and pegmatites that intruded older metamorphic rocks, forming miarolitic cavities rich in rare elements. Commercial interest and mining activity focused on extracting strategic minerals and gem materials from these pegmatitic veins and stockworks. The locality is famous among mineral collectors for producing exquisite gem-quality crystals of the blue-to-green variety of beryl known as aquamarine, alongside associated minerals like phenakite, topaz, and fluorite found lining open pockets in the weathered granite.
A cluster of glassy gemmy very pale blue to almost colorless parallel crystals of beryl. Double terminated and complete all around with no points of attachment. In very good condition. There is quite a bit of orange coloration present within the crystals, I would attribute this to iron oxides. The specimen comes with a previous label as shown at the end of the video. This weighs 14.21 g.
