Beryl with Goethite after Siderite, Schorl, Albite
specimen number:
8911101
location:
Erongo Mts., Namibia
description: The Erongo Mountains in western Namibia form a prominent circular volcanic complex created by Mesozoic ring dikes and granitic intrusions during the breakup of Gondwana over 130 million years ago. Small-scale miners and local collectors have worked these rugged granite pocket deposits for decades, uncovering world-class mineral specimens inside miarolitic cavities and pegmatite veins across sites like Erongo Peak and the surrounding farms. The region is internationally famous for producing exceptional gem-quality aquamarine beryl crystals, lustrous black schorl tourmaline, deep purple fluorite, clear quartz, and lustrous jeremejevite crystals, often occurring in aesthetic matrix combinations that make them highly sought after in the global mineral market.
A grouping of what were once blocky siderite crystals now replaced by goethite, this hosting a gem blue crystal of beryl, the variety known as aquamarine, measuring 2.7 cm in length. Minor black schorl and white albite are scattered throughout. This is in very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the Alton collection.
Size: 6.5 x 5.0 x 4.5 cm (small-cabinet)
