Topaz
specimen number:
8911017
location:
Nova Era, Minas Gerais, Brazil
description: Located within the Minas Gerais metallogenetic province of Brazil, the region around Nova Era is characterized by complex Proterozoic metamorphic terrains and granitic pegmatites that intruded older schist and gneiss formations. These geological environments provided the ideal hydrothermal conditions for the crystallization of high quality imperial topaz and other accessory gem minerals in quartz veins and eluvial pocket deposits. Artisanal mining and mineral collecting in this area date back many decades, with prospectors recovering prized yellow, orange, and sherry colored topaz crystals from weathered clay layers and alluvial workings. While large scale industrial mining has been limited, the locality remains legendary among international mineral collectors for producing some of the finest gemstone specimens in the state of Minas Gerais.
A gorgeous loose glassy gem quality blue crystal of topaz. This is complete all around with no points of attachment, in great condition. Interesting shape and form on this one, extremely choice. This weighs 101.4 g.
Size: 5.5 x 4.0 x 3.0 cm (miniature)
