location:
Xanda Mine, Virgem da Lapa, Minas Gerais, Brazil
description: Located within the prolific granite pegmatite field of Virgem da Lapa in Minas Gerais, Brazil, the Xanda Mine is world-renowned for producing some of the finest gem-quality topaz specimens ever discovered. The geology of the region consists of complex pegmatite dikes that intruded into older metamorphic rocks, where late-stage hydrothermal fluids rich in volatiles created localized cavities conducive to crystal growth. Artisanal mining and targeted specimen recovery operations in this pegmatite district have yielded remarkable, water-clear crystals ranging from colorless and sherry hues to stunning ice-blue shades, frequently characterized by high glassiness, sharp terminations, and unique natural etching along their prism faces.
Classic Brazilian gem crystal specimen, this a loose blue glassy crystal of topaz without matrix. Naturally crystallized on the base, this is in excellent condition. This weighs 48.29 g.
