location:
Ghundao hill, Katlang, Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
description: Located near the town of Katlang in the Mardan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, Ghundao hill is a globally renowned geological locality famous for its exceptional pink topazes. The regional geology primarily consists of metamorphosed limestone and marble formations where hydrothermal activity facilitated the crystallization of gem minerals within cavities and fissures. Discovered and extensively worked by local miners and mineral collectors, the hill gained scientific and commercial prominence for producing unique, highly sought-after violet-pink to peach-colored topazes that differ notably in color from topazes found in other global deposits. Artisanal mining and specimen recovery have continued intermittently at the site, making Ghundao hill a classic reference locality for Pakistani gemology.
A gorgeous glassy gemmy champagne colored terminated crystal of topaz. Naturally crystallized on the base, perfect all around. This weighs 31.01 g. A superb crystal for this famous locality for the species.
