Topaz
specimen number:
2063128
location:
Mina Veronica, El Copetillo, Villa Garcia, Zacatecas, Mexico
description: Mina Veronica, located near El Copetillo in the Villa Garcia municipality of Zacatecas, Mexico, is internationally renowned among mineral collectors for producing exceptionally sharp, vibrant red and sherry-colored topaz crystals. Geologically, these prized gemstone specimens crystallize within gas cavities or vugs inside high-temperature, fluorine-rich volcanic host rocks such as rhyolite or associated hydrothermal veins. Mining activity at this locality is small-scale and artisanal, driven primarily by dedicated mineral prospectors and collectors who carefully extract the brilliant, glassy prismatic crystals from surrounding volcanic matrices rather than through large-scale industrial operations.
Attractive mostly gemmy deep reddish-brown lustrous sharply terminated crystal of topaz 2.5 cm in height coming off of a rhyolite matrix. Several smaller topaz crystals are present. This is in very good condition.
Size: 3.4 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm (miniature)
