Spodumene
specimen number:
2354228
location:
Barra do Cuiete, Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil
description: Located in the Doce River valley of Minas Gerais, Brazil, the Barra do Cuiete region in Conselheiro Pena is renowned for its complex granitic pegmatites emplaced within ancient metamorphic rocks during regional tectonic and magmatic events. These deeply weathered and structurally complex pegmatites formed through fractional crystallization and hydrothermal activity that concentrated rare lithophile elements. Historically mined for commercial feldspar, quartz, and gemstone materials, the district has gained international fame among mineral collectors and museums for yielding world-class, museum-quality crystal specimens. Among its most notable mineralogical treasures is spodumene, a pyroxene mineral that forms massive prismatic crystals here, most famously including its prized gem variety known as kunzite, celebrated for its delicate pink to lilac coloration and exceptional clarity.
An attractive loose pale yellow green crystal of spodumene. No points of attachment, this is in perfect condition all around. This crystal weighs 34.77 g.
