description:
A loose lustrous slightly translucent dark orange crystal of spessartine. This is complete all around with little attached matrix. In good condition.

Located in the northern Arusha Region of Tanzania within the remote Loliondo district, Nani Hill is a prominent geological site centered around a massive quartz formation crosscut by iron-rich veinlets. Mining and collecting activities at this locality primarily involve artisanal digging into the loose, weathered detritus and soil surrounding the main quartz body to recover high-quality mineral specimens. The hill is globally famous among mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of spessartine, a nesosilicate mineral belonging to the garnet group. These spessartine crystals are highly prized for their striking transparency, brilliant vitreous luster, and vibrant orange to reddish-orange coloration, frequently found associated with hematite and other rare local minerals like orange kyanite.
