Spessartine
specimen number:
2354222
location:
Nani Hill, Loliondo, Arusha, Tanzania
description: Located in the northern Arusha Region of Tanzania within the remote Loliondo district, Nani Hill is a prominent geological site centered around a massive quartz formation crosscut by iron-rich veinlets. Mining and collecting activities at this locality primarily involve artisanal digging into the loose, weathered detritus and soil surrounding the main quartz body to recover high-quality mineral specimens. The hill is globally famous among mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of spessartine, a nesosilicate mineral belonging to the garnet group. These spessartine crystals are highly prized for their striking transparency, brilliant vitreous luster, and vibrant orange to reddish-orange coloration, frequently found associated with hematite and other rare local minerals like orange kyanite.
A grouping of lustrous orange to dark orange slightly translucent spessartine crystals, this with no points of attachment and complete all around. In good condition.
