Schorl
specimen number:
2063172
location:
Mica Creek, City of Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia
description: Mica Creek, located south of Mount Isa in Queensland, Australia, features complex Proterozoic metamorphic rocks and extensive pegmatite intrusions associated with the local granite and regional orogeny. Historically, the area attracted prospectors and mineral collectors due to its rich zoned pegmatites, which contain notable specimens of muscovite mica and black schorl tourmaline. While small-scale mining focused historically on mica and other pegmatite minerals, the site remains a well-known collecting locality for mineral enthusiasts seeking well-formed crystals of schorl embedded within quartz and feldspar matrices.
A loose lustrous double terminated crystal grouping of black schorl with minor attached muscovite. In very good condition all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 5.0 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm (miniature)
