Rhodochrosite
specimen number:
2063145
location:
Pasto Bueno, Pampas, Pallasca, Ancash, Peru
description: Located at high altitudes in the north-central Andes of Peru within the Pallasca province, the Pasto Bueno district is a renowned hydrothermal ore deposit hosted primarily in near-vertical quartz vein systems associated with Tertiary intrusive stocks. The local geology features complex metasedimentary host rocks cut by igneous activity, producing significant vein and greisen mineralization driven by a mixture of magmatic and meteoric fluids. Historically operated as a prominent commercial underground mine, Pasto Bueno achieved fame for its major production of tungsten-base metal ores. Beyond its industrial output, the site has become internationally famous among mineral collectors for yielding world-class mineral specimens, particularly exceptional rhodochrosite crystals, hubnerite, etc.
Attractive lustrous rhombohedral mostly gemmy pinkish red crystal of rhodochrosite with very little attached quartz. This is in good condition.
