location:
Henderson mine, Clear Creek Co., Colorado, USA
description: Located in Clear Creek County, Colorado, the Henderson mine is a world-class molybdenum deposit hosted within Tertiary-age granite porphyry intrusions of the Urad-Henderson stock complex. Discovered in 1964 beneath the historical Urad mine and beginning production in 1976, it became one of the world's largest underground molybdenum producers using large-scale block caving extraction techniques. Beyond its industrial economic importance, the deposit is famous among mineral collectors for producing magnificent specimens of quartz, fluorite, pyrite, topaz, rhodochrosite, and exceptionally crisp crystals of molybdenite.
Attractive thumbnail for this locality, pink bladed crystals of rhodochrosite are in a cluster with little attached matrix. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
