The California Mine, situated near Mount White in Chaffee County, Colorado at an elevation of 12,500 feet, is a high-altitude mineral deposit that experienced intermittent exploration phases rather than continuous historical production, with modern evaluation efforts occurring around 1960 before commercial claims lapsed by 1962. Geologically, the site is part of the Mount Antero-White Mountain rare-element district, where evolved Tertiary leucogranitic stocks and late-stage hydrothermal fluids injected beryllium, fluorine, and other elements into surrounding quartz monzonite and host rock structures to form small pegmatites, stockworks, and vuggy miarolitic cavities.
