Quartz
specimen number:
2063602
location:
Jinkouhe, Leshan, Sichuan, China
description: Located in the mountainous Jinkouhe District near Leshan in Sichuan Province, China, the local geology features complex hydrothermal vein systems and sedimentary rock formations, including notable ore bodies such as the Dawashan manganese deposit. Hydrothermal activity throughout regional faulting precipitated silicon dioxide in open rock cavities, forming pristine silicon dioxide crystals alongside minerals like barite. Local specimen collecting and small-scale artisanal mining in the area became famous on the international mineral market for producing aesthetic quartz specimens. The quartz from Jinkouhe is particularly renowned among collectors for its slender, highly lustrous hexagonal prisms, doubly terminated crystals, and distinctive dark or smoky appearance caused by internal mineral inclusions like graphite or carbonaceous material.
An attractive aesthetic grouping of colorless gemmy lustrous quartz crystals without matrix. Crystallized completely all around, this is in excellent condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
