Quartz
specimen number:
2341243
location:
Tazalaght Copper Mine, Taroudant, Souss-Massa, Morocco
description: Located in the rugged Anti-Atlas Mountains within the Taroudant Province of Morocco, the Tazalaght Copper Mine operates as an open-pit extraction site targeting regional sediment-hosted mineralization. The local geology features folded sequences of late Precambrian to early Cambrian sedimentary rocks, including dolostones, limestones, and quartzites where complex secondary copper deposits formed along structural folds and veins. Historically worked for industrial metal recovery, the mine and its surrounding dumps have also gained significant attention among international mineral collectors and researchers for yielding exceptional specimens of vibrant secondary copper carbonates and rare associated arsenates and sulfides.
An attractive cluster of glassy gem colorless quartz crystals, these with reddish iron oxide throughout. The overall appearance is a light reddish pink color. Crystallized naturally all around with no points of attachment, in excellent condition and quite attractive. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
