Quartz
specimen number:
2062719
location:
Sierra Blanca, Lincoln Co., New Mexico, USA
description: Sierra Blanca in Lincoln County, New Mexico, is a massive mid-Tertiary volcanic and intrusive complex formed roughly 38 to 26 million years ago, consisting of a deeply eroded volcanic pile and stocks of syenite and monzonite. Over subsequent millennia, extensive block-faulting and glacial erosion shaped the high-altitude range. Within the open fractures and miarolitic cavities of these intrusive rocks, silica-rich solutions slowly cooled to form prized, highly transparent to dark smoky quartz crystals featuring vitreous luster and distinct internal phantoms.
A gorgeous large thick glassy gem quality smoky quartz crystal. Naturally crystallized on the base, this is in perfect condition all around. Collected in 1988. The quality is outstanding. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 8.0 x 5.5 x 4.0 cm (small-cabinet)
