Quartz
specimen number:
2341026
location:
Adrar Tirecht Bou Oudi, Tata, Souss-Massa, Morocco
description: Adrar Tirecht Bou Oudi in the Tata province of the Souss-Massa region in Morocco features a unique geological deposit situated within Lower Cambrian limestone and fractured sedimentary strata crossed by hydrothermal veins. Mining operations in this arid Anti-Atlas mountain terrain recover gem material both from primary veins and secondary residual mudstones using a combination of manual extraction and mechanical excavation. The resulting amethyst crystals are globally renowned for their distinct features, notably double terminations, striking red needle-like hematite inclusions, and characteristic hourglass-shaped color zoning.
Very attractive gemmy double terminated richly colored crystal of quartz, this the variety known as amethyst, measuring 3.5 x 2.0 x 2.0 cm in size and set perfectly up on matrix. Aesthetic and in good condition, this shows the hourglass inclusion classic for this locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
