Quartz
specimen number:
2062789
location:
Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, India
description: The geology of the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India, is characterized by high-relief metamorphic and crystalline formations, including schists, gneisses, and quartzites shaped by intense tectonic uplift. Mineral collecting and small-scale artisan mining here focus primarily on alpine-type fissures and hydrothermal clefts that formed as mineral-rich fluids circulated through the cooling and shifting mountain ranges. These pockets have gained international renown for producing exceptional quartz specimens, ranging from glassy colorless rock crystals to smoky varieties. Collectors prize Kullu quartz for its sharp terminations, distinct growth phantoms, and frequent inclusions of green chlorite, mica, and golden needles of rutile.
A large thick glassy gem colorless crystal of quartz measuring 6.0 x 5.0 x 5.0 cm in size in a cluster with numerous smaller crystals. Very little matrix attached on the bottom. This is in excellent condition and sits perfectly by itself or display. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 8.0 x 7.5 x 6.0 cm (small-cabinet)
