Pyromorphite
specimen number:
2063161
location:
Society Girl Mine, Moyie, British Columbia, Canada
description: The Society Girl Mine, located on a ridge near Moyie, British Columbia, sits within a geological setting of ancestral North American sedimentary rocks featuring local faulting and a notable oxidized zone. Originally staked in 1893, the property was developed through intermittent underground adits and surface cuts from 1900 through the early 1920s to target silver and lead mineralization. While commercial production was relatively small compared to neighboring giants like the St. Eugene Mine, the site has since gained enduring recognition among mineral collectors for yielding fine specimen material, particularly prized crystals of pyromorphite from its weathered ore zones.
Classic Canadian specimen, a loose grouping of yellow green prismatic pyromorphite crystals. In good condition, these have a nice satiny luster.
