Greenish yellow botryoidal crystallized mimetite rich throughout this matrix with crystals of rhombohedral calcite. In good condition. Nice combination piece for this famous locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.

The Ojuela Mine, located near Mapimi in Durango, Mexico, was originally opened by Spanish prospectors in 1598 and experienced periods of intense extraction until its final major closure around 1932 due to exhausted reserves and water issues. Geologically, the mine is situated within deformed Cretaceous limestone, where extensive hydrothermal mineralization produced rich oxidized ore bodies containing numerous rare secondary mineral species.
