location:
McGregor Lake, Quebec, Canada
description: McGregor Lake, located in the Grenville geological province of Quebec, is characterized by rugged Precambrian metamorphic terrains and complex pegmatite formations. Historically, the region became active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries with intensive mining operations, most notably targeting pegmatite veins for valuable industrial minerals like mica, apatite, and feldspar. Today, rock hounds and mineral collectors frequent the surrounding area to find and collect specimens of phlogopite mica, apatite crystals, tourmaline, and various feldspar varieties embedded within the ancient Grenville rock structures.
A blocky opaque non-lustrous crystal of meionite set on matrix. In good condition with minimal micro-damage present. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He collected the piece on August 25, 1999.
Size: 7.0 x 6.0 x 3.5 cm (small-cabinet)
