Linarite with Brochantite
specimen number:
2062872
location:
Blanchard Mine, Socorro Co., New Mexico, USA
description: The Blanchard Mine, situated within the Hansonburg mining district along the western slope of the Sierra Oscura in Socorro County, New Mexico, features open space filling and replacement deposits hosted in Pennsylvanian-age limestones and fault zones, where hydrothermal fluids deposited minerals like fluorite, barite, and galena alongside various secondary oxidation species. Although commercial underground mining ventures focused intermittently on lead and fluorite production from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century with limited economic success, the site gained legendary status among mineral collectors. Modern recreational and specialized collecting operations continue to uncover world-class, pristine crystal specimens from its underground adits and pockets.
Very rich brilliant blue crystallized linarite across this matrix with minor green micro brochantite crystals. The color is very rich and attractive, the crystallization is great. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 4.5 x 4.5 x 4.0 cm (miniature)
