Linarite on Fluorite
specimen number:
2063045
location:
Sunshine #3 adit, Blanchard Mine, Socorro Co., New Mexico, USA
description: The Sunshine Number 3 adit at the Blanchard Mine in the Hansonburg District of Socorro County, New Mexico, is situated within Pennsylvanian limestone host rocks where hydrothermal fluids deposited mineralization along fault and fracture zones. Originally explored and worked for base metals like lead during historical mining periods, this specific underground working has since become world famous among mineral collectors for yielding exceptional micro-to-thumbnail sized secondary copper minerals, quartz, etc.
An attractive combination piece with almost colorless cubic non-lustrous slightly translucent crystals of fluorite to 1.0 cm in size, these preferentially coated with brilliant blue crystallized linarite on numerous faces. Very little attached matrix. This is in very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark who collected the piece on November 11, 2019.
