Lavendulan
specimen number:
2354266
location:
Emma Luisa Mine, Taltal, Antofagasta, Chile
description: The Emma Luisa Mine, a historic former gold and copper working near Guanaco in the Taltal province of Chile's Antofagasta region, formed within an arid volcanic and hydrothermal environment that later favored the creation of rare secondary minerals in its oxidized zones. Although largely consumed by modern open pit mining activities, the locality is celebrated by mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of rare arsenates. Among these is lavendulan, a striking secondary copper mineral that forms vibrant sky blue to lavender blue botryoidal crusts, spherulitic clusters, and tiny platy crystals within the weathered ore veins.
Rich attractive blue crystalline and massive lavendulan on matrix. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of R. W. Thomssen.
Size: 5.0 x 3.2 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
