Lavendulan
specimen number:
2354097
location:
Meskani Mine, Anarak, Isfahan, Iran
description: Located in the Anarak district of Isfahan Province, Iran, the historic Meskani Mine is situated within an arid central plateau region rich in complex polymetallic mineralization. The deposit formed through intricate hydrothermal processes, yielding rich copper vein networks hosted in fractured volcanic and metamorphic rocks. Historically mined for copper since ancient times, the site later attracted mineral collectors for its exceptional secondary copper species formed through surface oxidation. Among these notable secondary minerals is lavendulan, a hydrated sodium calcium copper arsenate mineral known for its distinctive bright sky-blue to translucent violet-blue crusts and radial botryoidal clusters. Renowned as a classic locality for pristine collector specimens, Meskani Mine has produced some of the finest lavendulan examples in the Middle East alongside other rare arsenates and carbonates.
Two brilliant blue areas of micro botryoidal crystallized lavendulan, the larger one measuring 2.0 x 0.6 cm in size. These are scattered across the top of matrix. Very good example for the species.
