Ceruleite
specimen number:
2354013
location:
Emma Luisa Mine, Guanaco, Antofagasta, Chile
description: Located in the Guanaco mining district of the Antofagasta Region, Chile, the Emma Luisa Mine is a famous high-sulfidation epithermal gold and silver deposit hosted within altered volcanic rocks. Discovered during the regional gold rush of the late nineteenth century, the mine became world-renowned among mineral collectors after producing exceptional, bright blue specimens of ceruleite, a rare hydrated copper aluminum arsenate mineral. These striking micro-crystals and botryoidal crusts usually form in the oxidized zones of copper-bearing ore bodies, making the locality a premier source for collector-quality mineral specimens.
Rich light blue masses of ceruleite on matrix. Good example for the species.
