Hubnerite with Quartz
specimen number:
2063526
location:
Mundo Nuevo, Huamachuco, Sanchez Carrion, La Libertad, Peru
description: Situated at high elevation in the Andes of the Sanchez Carrion Province, La Libertad, Peru, the Mundo Nuevo mining district features complex hydrothermal vein deposits formed within folded Cretaceous sedimentary host rocks. Commercial underground extraction historically targeted tungsten and base metals, yielding significant industrial output alongside fine mineral specimens. The locality became renowned among mineral collectors for producing sharp, lustrous hubnerite blades, exceptional quartz crystal clusters, augelite, and various sulfosalts. While large-scale commercial operations have fluctuated over time, small-scale adits and specimen mining have periodically continued to yield high-quality aesthetic pieces prized in private and museum collections worldwide.
An excellent thumbnail, a lustrous blocky sharply terminated crystal of hubnerite 1.5 x 1.1 x 0.7 cm in size standing straight up from a crystallized quartz matrix. In terrific condition all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 2.7 x 2.1 x 1.5 cm (thumbnail)
