Hubnerite
specimen number:
2062903
location:
Adams Mine, San Juan Co., Colorado, USA
description: The Adams Mine in San Juan County, Colorado, is situated within the rugged volcanic terrain of the San Juan Mountains, where regional tectonic and magmatic activity formed complex mineralized vein systems hosted primarily in Tertiary-age andesitic and related volcanic rocks. Historically developed as a lode mine, it gained regional note for producing strategic minerals, specifically featuring deposits of heavy metal-bearing ores associated with hydrothermal vein networks. Prospecting and mining operations began during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century mining booms that characterized the high-altitude San Juan region. The locality is well known for fine hubnerite specimens
Lustrous frown opaque crystals of hubnerite to 3.0 cm in size across the top of matrix. In good condition with minimal micro-damage present. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. This label notes that the specimen was originally obtained from Jim Winchell. He obtained the piece from the well-known dealer Ed McDole in 1961. Good Colorado classic.
Size: 8.5 x 5.0 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
