Hubnerite
specimen number:
2063082
location:
Mundo Nuevo Mine, Huamachuco, Sanchez Carrion, La Libertad, Peru
description: The Mundo Nuevo Mine is located in a high-Andean polymetallic and intrusive-related vein province in northern Peru. Geologically, the deposit sits within a rugged, high-altitude mountain setting where hydrothermal activity filled regional fractures with quartz and rich ore assemblages. Historically operated for tungsten and related resources, the mine gained international renown among mineral collectors for producing world-class crystal specimens. Over the decades, localized underground mining operations and independent collectors have recovered exceptional museum-grade specimens from open-space pockets, most notably lustrous hubnerite crystals, various phosphates, and pristine quartz associations that remain highly prized in the global mineral market.
A lustrous grouping of metallic hubnerite crystals without matrix. Very minor attached quartz is present. Choice thumbnail for the species and locality.
