Goudeyite
specimen number:
2354111
location:
Majuba Hill Mine, Pershing Co., Nevada, USA
description: Located in the Antelope District of Pershing County, Nevada, the Majuba Hill Mine is situated within a complex, highly altered Tertiary rhyolitic intrusive complex that cuts through Triassic fine-grained sedimentary rocks. Commercial mining began during World War I, primarily extracting copper, silver, and gold, followed by minor tin production in later decades. Extensive late-stage hydrothermal fluids altered primary sulfides, creating a rich zone of secondary oxidation minerals within the upper fracture zones. Collector interest soared as the mine proved to be the type locality for several exceptionally rare secondary species, including goudeyite, a green to blue-green aluminum copper phosphate mineral that forms slender acicular crystals and radiating fibrous crusts. The rich diversity of micro-minerals in the open pits and underground workings made Majuba Hill one of the most celebrated collecting sites in the Great Basin.
Green botryoidal crystallized Goudeyite in one small area up on matrix. Good example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski who collected the piece from the bottom of the copper stope in the year 2000.
Size: 9.0 x 5.0 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
