Chalcophyllite
specimen number:
2351003
location:
Majuba Hill mine, Pershing Co., Nevada, USA
description: The geology of the Majuba Hill mine in Pershing County, Nevada, consists of a complex Tertiary rhyolite intrusive plug and associated breccia masses that cut through older sedimentary rocks, hosting multi-metal mineralization related to a hydrothermal system. Discovered in 1907 with subsequent underground development beginning around 1914, the historic mine experienced intermittent production periods primarily targeting high-grade surface and underground deposits through a series of adits and tunnels. Over the decades, small-scale operations extracted notable quantities of metal ores, while modern exploration continues to evaluate the site as a porphyry system.
Attractive sky-blue platy crystals of chalcophyllite lying flat across the top of matrix. Nice example for the species. In good condition.
