Goudeyite
specimen number:
2354040
location:
Majuba Hill Mine, Pershing Co., Nevada, USA
description: Located in Pershing County, Nevada, the Majuba Hill Mine is set within a complex Tertiary-age rhyolitic intrusive complex that intruded into Triassic sedimentary rocks. Discovered in 1907, the mine initially operated for copper, tin, and silver, saw active production during both World Wars, and later became world-famous among mineralogists for its exceptionally rich, oxidized secondary mineral zone. Majuba Hill serves as the type locality for goudeyite, a rare copper aluminum yttrium arsenate mineral named in honor of prominent California mineral collector Hatfield Goudey. Goudeyite typically occurs at the locality as striking, pale-green to blue-green acicular sprays and fibrous coatings in association with other rare secondary copper minerals.
Rich green botryoidal crystalline and crystallized goudeyite across the front of matrix. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski, he collected the piece in 2000 from the bottom of the copper stope.
