Goudeyite
specimen number:
2354309
location:
Majuba Hill Mine, Pershing Co., Nevada, USA
description: Green botryoidal crystalline goudeyite fairly rich across the top of this matrix. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski. He collected this from the bottom of the copper stope in the year 2000. The Majuba Hill Mine in Pershing County, Nevada, is a complex Tertiary-age rhyolitic volcanic plug and intrusive center that was historically worked for copper, tin, silver, and other metals through underground tunnels starting in the early twentieth century. Its extensive oxidation zones and hydrothermal alteration have made it world-famous among mineral collectors for yielding an exceptional diversity of rare secondary micro-minerals. Among these is goudeyite, a striking and uncommon secondary copper aluminum arsenate that typically forms vibrant pale-green to blue-green acicular sprays, fibrous coatings, or tiny botryoidal aggregates lining vugs within the historic copper stopes.
