Fluorite
specimen number:

location:
Touroug-El Hamda Quarries, Melaab Caidat, Goulmima Cercle, Errachidia, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The Touroug-El Hamda Quarries, also known as the Hameda Mine, are situated within the Cretaceous sedimentary strata of the Errachidia province in southeastern Morocco. This geological region features marine deposits that are well known among mineral and fossil collectors for producing notable specimens such as fluorite, barite, and quartz, alongside Cretaceous marine fossils. Local mining and collecting activities in these remote desert quarries are primarily small-scale operations conducted by local workers and independent prospectors who extract matrix-embedded mineral crystals and fossils for the international specimen market.
Semi lustrous gemmy yellow green cubic crystals of fluorite measuring to 3.0 cm on edge across the top of matrix. This is in good condition with minimal micro-cleaving present to some of the non-prominent crystals. From 2006, the specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
