An absolutely gorgeous small miniature for this classic Ohio locality and species. A cluster of three glassy gem color zoned crystals of fluorite, the largest measuring 1.5 cm on edge, in an aesthetic stacked cluster with very little attached matrix. Complete all around and in excellent condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark, who acquired it from John Medici in 2003.

The quarrying operations cut through ancient sedimentary rock formations, occasionally exposing vugs and cavities lined with hydrothermal and secondary minerals formed in the ancient cratonic basin. Among the notable mineral specimens collected by researchers and hobbyists from these carbonate layers is fluorite, which occurs as well-formed cubic crystals often associated with calcite, celestine, and pyrite. While commercial extraction remains active and strictly controlled for industrial use, historic and occasional controlled collecting events have made the Paulding County quarries famous among mineral enthusiasts for producing exceptional fluorite specimens.
