Fluorite
specimen number:
2063257
location:
Henderson mine, Clear Creek Co., Colorado, USA
description: The Henderson Mine in Clear Creek County, Colorado, is a massive underground molybdenum mine operated by the Climax Molybdenum Company. While primarily known for its extensive porphyry molybdenum deposits, the mine has also yielded exceptional specimens of rare secondary minerals, including creedite. Creedite is a scarce calcium aluminum sulfate fluoride hydroxide mineral that typically forms through the oxidation of ore deposits. At the Henderson Mine, collectors have prized specimens featuring delicate, radiating crystal clusters of creedite, often appearing in pale purple or lavender shades.
Pale green lustrous and gem crystals of fluorite measuring to 0.6 cm in size completely covering the top of a thin matrix. This is in very good condition. Choice locality example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
