Fluorapophyllite-K
specimen number:
2062757
location:
Nizhnyaya Tunguska River Basin, Evenkiysky, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia
description: The Nizhnyaya Tunguska River Basin in Evenkiysky, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, is characterized by extensive Siberian Traps flood basalts formed through ancient volcanic activity, featuring amygdaloidal cavities filled by secondary minerals. While the region lacks large-scale industrial mining operations for these specific silicates, its remote river valleys have long been explored and collected for exceptional mineral specimens. The volcanic cavities yield world-class zeolite minerals, such as harmotome, chabazite, analcime, and heulandite, prized by mineral collectors for their pristine crystal clarity and distinct formations.
A neat unusual loose lustrous prismatic crystal of fluorapophyllite. Slightly translucent with good luster. The specimen comes with a label from the collection of Ray DeMark. This label notes that the specimen was received in trade via Michigan Tech University. Originally this was acquired from a professor A. Kukoje at St. Petersburg State University in Russia.
