Fluorapophyllite-K with Stilbite
specimen number:
2062871
location:
Vambori, Rahuri, Maharashtra, India
description: Vambori, located near Rahuri in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, India, sits within the vast Deccan Traps province, a massive continental flood basalt formation created by ancient volcanic activity. As hydrothermal fluids circulated through the cooling gas cavities and vesicles of these basalt layers, secondary mineral assemblages crystallized over millions of years. Mining and collecting in this region are largely driven by local quarrying operations and artisanal mineral hunters who extract spectacular specimen pieces from the soft volcanic rock. Vambori has gained international renown among mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of fluorapophyllite, often featuring brilliant, gemmy crystals with distinctive green or clear coloration, frequently associated with other secondary cavity minerals like stilbite and related zeolites.
Attractive grouping of glassy gemmy lustrous prismatic fluorapophyllite crystals, these light green in color, coming off matrix with minor stilbite. This is in good condition all around. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark and dates to the very early 2000's.
Size: 5.5 x 4.5 x 4.0 cm (miniature)
