location:
Meridian Aggregates Quarry, Black Rock, Lawrence Co., Arkansas, USA
description: The Meridian Aggregates Quarry located near Black Rock in Lawrence County, Arkansas, has operated under various corporate entities and historical designations—such as local stone and rock crushing operations dating back to the mid-twentieth century—producing crushed stone aggregates through modern industrial periods, though specific exact single opening and final closure dates for the Meridian-named entity are not comprehensively documented in standard public archives. Geologically, the quarry site is situated at the edge of the Ozark Mountains within Paleozoic sedimentary rock formations, primarily extracting and processing lower Ordovician age carbonate strata consisting of thick layers of limestone and dolostone, which are rich in secondary mineral specimens including dolomite and calcite.
Attractive lustrous pink saddle shape crystals of dolomite to 1.0 cm in size across the top of matrix. In great condition. Scattered throughout are gemmy colorless lustrous crystals of calcite to 1.5 cm in size, as well as sparkling micro crystals of chalcopyrite. In great condition. This is classic material for this locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 6.3 x 5.7 x 2.5 cm (small-cabinet)
