Cobaltite
specimen number:
2354250
location:
Brazil Lake, Foster, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
description: The Brazil Lake occurrence in Foster Township, located within the Sudbury District of Ontario, Canada, features mineralized quartz-carbonate and dolomite veins hosted along contacts with metagabbro. Historically explored via surface trenching, test pitting, and a short exploratory adit driven into the local hills, the site is best known among mineral collectors for yielding exceptionally sharp, metallic-bright, cubic crystalline specimens. Cobaltite occurs here as distinct, well-formed crystals embedded in a matrix composed of grey dolomite, coarse actinolite, and calcite, frequently associated with minor pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite.
A loose metallic lustrous single crystal of cobaltite. In great condition.
