Arthurite
specimen number:
2354261
location:
Majuba Hill Mine, Pershing Co., Nevada, USA
description: The Majuba Hill Mine, located in Pershing County, Nevada, USA, sits within a complex tertiary rhyolitic intrusive complex that intruded into triassic-jurassic sedimentary rocks. The copper, tin, and silver mineralization occurred in several distinct hydrothermal events, creating complex veins, breccias, and oxide zones rich in secondary minerals. Originally discovered in the late 19th century and actively mined during the early 20th century, particularly during World War I, the site produced notable quantities of copper ore. In subsequent decades, the location transitioned from commercial mining to a world-famous locality for mineral collectors, renowned for superb micro-mount and cabinet specimens of rare secondary copper, arsenic, and uranium minerals found throughout its extensive dump piles and underground workings.
Green crystal groupings of arthurite to 0.2 cm in size quite rich across the top of matrix. In good condition.
