specimen number:

location:
Topaz Mtn., Juab Co., Utah, USA
description: Topaz Mountain, located in the Thomas Range of Juab County, Utah, is a famous mineral collecting site featuring amber and clear topaz crystals that formed within gas cavities of Miocene rhyolite lava flows. The region has a long history of rockhounding and mineral exploration dating back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These same rhyolite cavities also yield bixbyite, a striking dark metallic mineral composed of manganese and iron oxides, which was named after the prominent early Utah prospector Maynard Bixby.
A small with neat specimen with Sherry colored crystals of topaz to 0.7 cm in length on matrix. On the prominent crystal there is a ring of metallic microscopic bixbyite crystals around the girth of the topaz crystal. In good condition.
